Assistant Professor in French

The Department of World Languages & Cultures at the University of Utah invites applications for a tenure-track position in French at the Assistant Professor level beginning July 1, 2020. The successful candidate will have broad expertise in French literature and culture, and ability to teach courses in one or more of the following areas: French studies of the 16th, 17th, 18th, 20th, 21st centuries; poetry, drama, philosophy, social media, popular culture, visual culture. Clear evidence of research potential and demonstrated teaching excellence required. Native/near-native fluency in French and English is a prerequisite. French is a vibrant language section in the WLC with collaborative faculty, a large number of majors and minors, and a direct connection to the thriving dual immersion program in Utah’s K12. We have had good success placing our students in key French teaching positions and in graduate programs across the country. And, our faculty teach and research in a wide variety of subjects from film to fashion, epic to lyric, the romanesque to romance, painting to porcelain, and dramas of revolution, nationhood, otherness, and identity. The candidate hired will have the opportunity to make an immediate contribution to this dynamic program. The teaching load is two courses per semester, all at the upper-division and graduate levels. Service commensurate with the position of assistant professor is expected. Applicants must have a PhD in French or Comparative Literature or equivalent terminal degree in hand by July 1, 2020.
