TENURE-TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN SPANISH AND HISPANIC STUDIES

The Spanish Program in the Department of Modern Languages & Literatures at Union College is seeking a candidate for a tenure track position with a Latin Americanist focus, preferably with a specialization in Mexico, Central America, or Andean Region. We are also interested in a candidate with a background in Border Studies or Indigenous Studies. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish is required. We are looking for a person with engaging and deep cross-disciplinary research and courses that contribute to Latin American and Caribbean Studies, as well as to the College’s other interdisciplinary programs (https://www.union.edu/interdisciplinary-studies). We seek a candidate who can contribute to a redesigned Spanish curriculum through courses that bring Hispanic Studies in connection with other disciplines, including psychology or neuroscience (linguistics or language acquisition, for example), computer science (e.g., natural language processing), engineering, the social or natural sciences, or the medical, environmental or blue humanities, or geohumanities, or interest in public or applied humanities. The candidate must demonstrate strong language teaching skills and experience at all levels and interest in leading our term abroad programs in Argentina and Spain. The candidate is expected to contribute to a recently updated General Education Program (https://www.union.edu/global-challenges-social-justice). A successful applicant will demonstrate interest in working closely with undergraduate students and in departmental curricular development that is forward-thinking, creative, and interdisciplinary. 

Appointment beginning in September of 2024. PhD in hand by August 2024. Hiring will be conditional on budgetary capacity. The teaching load for the position is 6 courses per year, typically distributed as two per term across each of the three terms. Salary range: $80,000-$82,000, contingent on experience.
