Assistant/Associate Professor in German Linguistics/Applied Linguistics

The Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures (https://german.la.psu.edu/) at The Pennsylvania State University at University Park, PA, USA (https://www.psu.edu/) invites applications for an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in German Linguistics/Applied Linguistics (tenure-track) to start Fall 2024.

Teaching responsibilities include courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs in German (our department offers a BA/BS, MA, and Ph.D. in German, with a specific track in German linguistics/applied linguistics at the Ph.D. level). The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute to teaching in the Program in Linguistics (https://linguistics.la.psu.edu/) and the Dual Title Ph.D. Program in Language Science (https://linguistics.la.psu.edu/graduate/dual-title-degree-in-language-science/).

The field of specialization within Germanic linguistics/applied linguistics is open, but we have a particular interest in applicants with expertise in corpus linguistics, sociolinguistics, computational linguistics, or instructional design and online learning. The Assistant or Associate Professor will bring a promising research record and is expected to enhance or complement research as carried out in the Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures, the Program in Linguistics, and the Center for Language Science (https://cls.la.psu.edu/).

Candidates for the Assistant Professor of German Linguistics/Applied Linguistics must have demonstrated ability as a researcher, scholar, and teacher in a relevant field and have evidence of growth in scholarly achievement. Duties will involve a combination of teaching, research, and service, based on the candidate's qualifications.

Candidates for the Associate Professor of German Linguistics/Applied Linguistics must have demonstrated excellence as a researcher, scholar, and teacher in a relevant field and have an established reputation in scholarly achievement. Duties will involve a combination of teaching, research, and service, based on the candidate's qualifications.

Requirements for both ranks: Ph.D. in German, Linguistics, or a related field is required at time of appointment. Candidates must also have native or near-native ability in English and German. In addition, successful candidates must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.
