The English Department at the State University of New York at New Paltz invites applications for a lecturer position in Rhetoric & Composition with a specialization and/or teaching expertise in developmental writing. Candidates will be expected to develop and teach courses in rhetoric and composition, which might include public writing, cultural rhetorics, and professional writing. We additionally welcome candidates with expertise in educational technology for teaching writing. The appointment will be at the level of lecturer with an anticipated start date of August 2024.
SUNY New Paltz is a competitive regional comprehensive university with a diverse student body, serving the students of New York as well as students from locally neighboring states. Currently 26% of our majors identify as Asian-Pacific, Black, Latinx, or multi-racial.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory composition and writing and rhetoric courses. There may be opportunities to teach general education and advanced writing and rhetoric courses as departmental needs permit. The standard teaching load for this position is 30 credits per year. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of excellence in teaching and mentoring in addition to continued professional development. Qualifications:
Required: Ph.D. or equivalent in Rhetoric & Composition, or a related field, or supplysolid indication of imminent completion.
Preferred: Ability to demonstrate a record of, or potential for, excellent teaching at the undergraduate level.
