Description

Tenure-track position in Language & International Health

The Clemson University Department of Languages is seeking an interdisciplinary scholar of language, humanities, and global health to join our Language & International Health (LIH) program with a hiring date of August 15, 2024. This is a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level; however, more senior candidates at other levels may be considered for the position of LIH Director. The department seeks a scholar who will ultimately be able to fill this role in the future.

Field of research is flexible: the ideal candidate will be an active scholar in areas such as global health delivery; global health equity; medical anthropology; community-engaged health programs and activism; narrative medicine; human rights; health, environment, and the arts; sustainability; or other related subjects.

With more than 100 majors, the BS in LIH pairs core courses in advanced humanities in a target language (with tracks in Spanish, French, and Chinese) and in public and global health (through the Department of Public Health Sciences). We welcome applicants able to teach in French or Spanish (or both) and English.

The ideal candidate will be able contribute to the program in any of several possible ways: teaching in-language courses for health professionals focused on body systems, disease processes, community health, etc.; teaching courses related to culture and health care in the Spanish- or French-speaking worlds; collaboration with the Department of Public Health and other campus communities; future directorship of the program; facilitating experiential learning; advising students; establishing sustainable partnerships abroad; developing curricula (including a possible BA).
