Job Description:

The Department of Language, Literature and Culture at Clark University seeks to hire the next Henry J. Leir Endowed Chair in Languages and Cultures. The department is seeking to hire a candidate at the rank of established associate professor or full professor to begin Fall 2024 (tenure on hire). Successful applicants will have research specialization in literature and culture in French, German and/or Spanish (additional languages in connection with the languages described above welcome). The committee encourages applicants with demonstrated expertise in cultural construction of national identity, environmental humanities, gender studies, race and ethnicity studies, digital media, digital humanities and/or migration studies.

We are interested in scholars whose research and teaching are collaborative and interdisciplinary in nature. The successful candidate will be able to take advantage of collaborative relationships with faculty and students in Clark programs, centers, and schools such as: Higgins School of Humanities, Center for Gender, Race and Area Studies, (CGRAS), Becker School of Design and Technology, among others.

The successful candidate will teach four courses per year related to language, national identity and culture, including our foundational course The National Imagination. The Leir Chair will

• develop courses and experiences connecting languages and cultures
• engage in outreach to other departments and programs at Clark and other universities domestic and international
• augment Clark's international profile by organizing international conferences, symposia and/or joint research.
