Liberal Studies at New York University invites applications for two Clinical Assistant Professor positions to begin September 1, 2024, pending administrative and budgetary approval.

The Liberal Studies Core is a dynamic liberal arts curriculum that provides a global and interdisciplinary foundation for nearly 100 NYU majors. The Global Liberal Studies Bachelor of Arts is an innovative global studies major grounded in the spatial, conceptual, and temporal understandings of a highly interconnected world, with a program of study that is distinguished by experiential learning, study away, and independent research focused in an interdisciplinary concentration. In both the LS Core and the GLS major, small, seminar-style classes and close faculty-student interaction ensure the benefits of a liberal arts college within a large urban research university. We are especially interested in hiring qualified candidates who can contribute through their research, teaching and service to the diversity and excellence of the Liberal Studies community.

We seek applicants for the following positions:

FILM AND MEDIA PRODUCTION
PhD or MFA in Film and Media Production or related field. Candidates must have the ability to teach audio-visual media production (excluding music production) at an introductory level; ability to also teach new media production is welcome but not required.  Candidates will develop a model for and offer tutorial support in media production to Liberal Studies students, faculty, and staff, as well as managing LS audio-visual equipment.  Candidates must be experienced in relevant Adobe CC platforms, as well as being able to develop upper-division seminars in their field, and offer a global, interdisciplinary, and intersectional focus in courses in the Core Curriculum area of their choice (for instance, Writing or Arts & Cultures).

WRITING
PhD or MFA in Writing Studies, Creative Writing, Documentary Studies or related field. Candidates must have the ability and experience to teach in the first-year writing sequence of the Core Curriculum with a global, interdisciplinary, and intersectional emphasis. Preference will be given to candidates with a secondary field in documentary arts as practiced through such media as film and/or podcast. Along with a focus on first-year writing, candidates should be prepared to contribute upper-level courses in the Critical Creative Production concentration of the Global Liberal Studies degree with a particular focus on the creative and theoretical implications of their work in cross-cultural or otherwise global contexts.

Minimum qualifications: PhD or MFA by the date of appointment; three years of college-level teaching experience; and demonstrated excellence in teaching. We are especially interested in qualified candidates who share Liberal Studies’ commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and who can contribute to the diversity of intellectual life in LS and NYU. Candidates must present demonstrated experience and commitment to interdisciplinarity, intersectionality, and a teaching approach informed by global perspectives. Publications and evidence of outstanding scholarship and relevant professional activity are strongly encouraged.

All Liberal Studies full-time faculty hold renewable term contracts, initially three years, and later six years in duration. Faculty are eligible for promotion within the Clinical faculty ranks (Assistant, Associate, Full). Faculty normally teach three classes per semester, advise undergraduates, and contribute service to Liberal Studies and to the University. 

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
