The Department of Italian Studies in Arts and Science at New York University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We encourage applications from scholars whose research is primarily grounded in Italian literary studies (1900 to the present), whereby “Italian” should be understood as both referring to Italy’s literary traditions and their transnational and multilingual intersections. We welcome applicants whose primary expertise in Italian literary studies may be complemented by interests in fields such as disability studies, postcolonial studies (including migration and diaspora), environmental studies, and literary theory.

The successful applicant will have a strong record of research and publications. They will be committed to educating students in programs hosted by the Italian Studies department, including the undergraduate programs (major and minor in Italian Studies) and the Italian Studies MA and PhD programs, while also being willing to explore inter-departmental and school-wide teaching opportunities such as NYU’s CORE curriculum and the Public Humanities initiative. Ultimately, they will be looking forward to working within a department that emphasizes and encourages inter- and trans-disciplinary research and teaching, and with a faculty whose work covers areas as diverse as literary and philological studies from the medieval period to the present, literary theory, film and media studies, history, art history, visual culture and music.

Pay Transparency Statement
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $85,000–$135,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

Qualifications
Candidates should possess a PhD by August 31, 2024, have a research agenda that indicates the potential to be a leader in the field of Italian Literary Studies, and have demonstrated excellence in teaching.
