Assistant Professor in Creative Writing (Fiction)

WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY’S Department of English invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Creative Writing (Fiction) at the level of Assistant Professor beginning in July 2024. We seek candidates who hold a terminal degree in creative writing or literature (MFAor PhD), and whose literary practice engages African American contexts.

The creative writing program at Wake Forest is dynamic and dedicated to contributing to the artistic and intellectual life of the university. We house the prestigious publisher of innovative fiction, Fiction Collective Two (FC2), directed by Joanna Ruocco; host a distinguished visiting author reading series featuring writers such as Chris Abani, Renee Gladman, and George Saunders; and sponsor a lively student reading series. We offer a popular minor and teach masters students seeking a creative writing concentration. Our students have been accepted to top graduate programs, including the MFA programs at Iowa and Notre Dame. We value collaboration, creative openness, and interdisciplinarity in our programming and courses. The successful candidate may also work with the African American Studies Program, which features signature distinctions in African American arts, aesthetics, and expressive culture.  

Applicants should have a book or record of significant publication, experience teaching creative writing workshops, ability to shape an ambitious creative writing program, and commitment to co-directing the reading series. Salary is competitive. The teaching load is 2/2.
