The Department of English Literature and Language at St. Mary’s University, Texas, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Writing Studies, with a focus on developmental writing. The department especially welcomes candidates with research and teaching interests in pedagogies that foster Latinx student success. We also welcome candidates with proven or potential ability to teach upper-division courses in global Anglophone literature, e.g. literatures of the African diaspora or South Asian literatures. We seek an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher-scholar who will contribute to our academic community through teaching, research, and service.
Candidates for the position should have a Ph.D. in English or a related field from an accredited institution. ABD candidates who are expected to receive their doctorate before the start of the appointment will also be considered.
The primary responsibilities of this position include:
- Teaching: The successful candidate will teach developmental writing and first-year composition courses as well as upper-division and graduate courses on writing studies. If qualified, the candidate will also have the opportunity to teach upper-division and graduate courses on global Anglophone literature.
- Research: The successful candidate will engage in active scholarly research in the field of writing studies, with a focus on developmental writing pedagogy, writing assessment, or related areas.
- Service: This hire will serve as Faculty Lead of Writing in English Literature and Language. Responsibilities include leading workshops on best practices and on teaching writing across the curriculum. This hire also will participate in departmental and university service, including advising students, serving on committees, and involvement in recruitment and retention activities.
