Assistant Professor of English (Composition)

The Department of English at Sam Houston State University seeks applications for an Assistant Professor of composition who would serve as Associate Director of the Composition Program, working directly with the Co-Directors of composition to create and revise composition curriculum, train and support teaching faculty, and assist and programmatic assessment. This 9-month, tenure-track position starts with the Fall 2024 semester. The successful applicant must possess the following:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate in composition, which may be represented by several variations of programs (e.g., English, Rhetoric, Writing, etc.) by Aug. 21, 2024,
  • Experience teaching (as the instructor of record) college-level courses in composition,
  • Active research portfolio that includes writing pedagogy scholarship, with an emphasis on access

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Writing Program Administration,
  • Experience conducting Writing Program Assessment,
  • Experience developing composition curriculum,
  • Experience with any of the following specialties within writing studies: developmental writing; integrated reading and writing; dual-credit English,

The chosen candidate will teach three courses per semester. These courses will primarily be composition courses at all levels, spanning freshman composition to graduate courses in composition theory.
