Job Description
The Department of English at Hope College invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in Creative Writing—Fiction to begin in the Academic Year of ‘24 – ‘25.

Successful candidates will have a strong grounding in contemporary fiction and narrative technique. Faculty are responsible for 24 workload hours per year, 18 is teaching and 6 is research or creative activity. The typical teaching load is three, three-credit courses per semester. This could include intermediate and advanced fiction, introductory creative writing, and first-year writing. Department members also teach other courses in our General Education Program. Preference will be given to creative writers whose creative, research, and teaching interests supplement and expand our departmental program, especially with secondary interests in any of the following; creative nonfiction, graphic narrative, playwriting, professional writing, screenwriting, and diverse American and/or global literatures.

Additional duties will include academic advising and supporting students in a thriving program, maintaining an active publication profile, recruitment of potential incoming students, and participation in faculty governance within and outside the department.

Qualifications
The position requires an MFA or PhD in creative writing with a specialization in fiction, evidence of outstanding college-level teaching, and a strong publication record.
