Overview
The Department of English at Utah State University seeks applications for an academic-year, nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor of English in English Education. Preferred areas of interest include adolescent literacy/pedagogy and qualitative or quantitative research methods. Possible secondary expertise in sociolinguistics, young adult literature, and/or new literacies is welcome. Preference will be given to candidates committed to antiracist principles in teaching and whose work contributes to the department's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The applicant is required to have a PhD in English Education or a related field, at least two years of middle school or secondary English teaching experience, along with a demonstrably strong publication and teaching record. This is a research-intensive position with a teaching load of two courses per semester (2/2). These courses will be based on the Logan campus, in Northern Utah's scenic Cache Valley. The position begins in August 2024.
Responsibilities
The successful applicant will publish in their field(s) of expertise. They will teach courses in the English Department’s English Teaching emphasis and related courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. They will also mentor both undergraduate and graduate students.
Qualifications
- Applicants must have earned a PhD in English Education or a related field and must have fulfilled their degree requirements by August 1, 2024. (ABD will be considered) Candidates who are ABD will be hired as an Instructor.
- Must have at least two years of middle school or secondary English teaching experience.
- Must have a proven record of research excellence. Preference will be given to applicants who have published articles, book chapters, and/or books.
- Must have a proven record of teaching excellence
