Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Spanish

The Department of World Languages and Cultures at Concordia College (Moorhead, MN) invites applications for one full-time (1.0 FTE) tenure-track Assistant Professor of Spanish position. The teaching load is three (3) four-credit courses or equivalent per semester, and will include a combination of beginning, intermediate and advanced courses in Spanish, as well as potential collaborations with other academic units, such as the M.Ed. in World Language Instruction, various interdisciplinary programs, and First-Year Experience courses. Preference will be given to generalists with a commitment to developing and teaching innovative courses in Spanish.

The successful candidate will have

  • Ph.D. in Spanish/Hispanic Studies, but the specialization is open, in hand by the end of July, 2024.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English.
  • Commitment to and experience working with diverse populations of students.
  • Demonstrated passion, innovation, and enthusiasm for all levels of language instruction, and interest in advising student activities.

Special attention will be given to candidates who possess:

  • Demonstrated experience and effective teaching of courses in the language and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world from an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Expertise in second language acquisition theories and practice.
  • The ability to teach another language.
  • Experience in innovative curriculum development and interdisciplinary coursework.
  • Familiarity with General Education courses and ACTFL proficiency guidelines.
  • Experience integrating theories of intercultural citizenship throughout the Spanish curriculum.
  • Commitment to and experience working with heritage speakers.
