Teaching Assistant Professor of Spanish and Director of Undergraduate Studies

The Department of Hispanic Languages and Literatures at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a full-time Teaching  Assistant Professor position to serve as Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUS). Pending budgetary approval, the position will begin in Fall 2024, with the possibility of obtaining successive three-year contracts. 

The successful candidate will be able to provide leadership in the structuring and supervision of the undergraduate Spanish major and the Spanish and Portuguese minors and coordinate long-range planning of undergraduate course offerings of both mid and upper-level courses in Spanish.  The DUS will be involved in the advising of Spanish majors, creating and supervising internship opportunities, developing innovative curriculum, and teaching undergraduate courses in the literature and culture of Spain and Latin America as well as language courses. The full teaching load is six courses per year, with two teaching reductions (one in each semester) for DUS duties.  

Excellence in teaching, broad experience in program administration, curricular development, advising, academic partnerships for community engagement, and a strong commitment to undergraduate education are expected. A Ph.D. in Spanish with a focus on Latin American literature and cultures at hand at the time of appointment and native or near-native proficiency in Spanish are required. Proficiency in Portuguese is also expected.
