Assistant Professor of Spanish in Norman, OK for The University of Oklahoma
The Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for a tenure-track position specializing in colonial Latin American Literature, with potential consideration for candidates specializing in both colonial and 19th-century literature at the level of Assistant Professor. The anticipated start date is August 16th, 2024. The position is a 9-month faculty appointment and carries a teaching load of four classes per year. Salary is competitive.
The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in research and a strong commitment to outstanding teaching, with a primary focus on upper-division courses and graduate studies. They will be expected to teach specialized courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, while also offering literature and culture classes at the undergraduate level. Responsibilities encompass directing M.A. theses and Ph.D. dissertations, actively contributing to the growth and enhancement of the Spanish program, and engaging students in research initiatives. Additional duties may include supervising independent studies or honors research projects, recruiting prospective students for the graduate program, leading outreach activities, and participating in OU study abroad options, such as the OU in Puebla Program. The successful candidate will also contribute to departmental- and institutional-level service.
Minimum requirements: Ph.D. in Spanish; record of research publications and/or evidence of outstanding research in colonial and/or nineteenth century Latin American literature; evidence of teaching excellence; native or near-native fluency in Spanish and excellent command of English.
