The Department of Spanish at the University of North Texas, Denton, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor to begin in August 2024. This is a full-time position with benefits.
The Department of Spanish at UNT offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Spanish as well as a minor and a Certificate in Professional Spanish. There are about 85 Spanish majors and over 500 Spanish minors along with about 7 full graduate Teaching Assistants and Fellows. The faculty consists of 5 professors and 7 lecturers along with about 10 adjunct faculty members. The department is committed to preparing students to become global citizens through courses in language, culture, literature, linguistics and the professions that empower communicative and cultural competency for the 21st century. UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong record of scholarly research necessary to obtain tenure. Teaching load will be two courses (6 credit hours) per semester at the BA and MA levels, either existing or new courses based on their area of specialization. The new faculty member must be willing to design and teach new SPST (Spanish Studies courses taught in English) and online classes. Fluency and mastery in Spanish and English as well as teaching experience at the university level are required. Service activities would be reduced until tenure is secured, but participation in some committees and related activities would be expected.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Spanish focused on the interdisciplinary cultural studies of the Hispanic world that can include, but are not limited to: Afro-Hispanic Studies, Digital Humanities, Queer Studies, and Popular and Mass Cultures (e.g. graphic novels, T.V., film, social media, etc.). Fluency and mastery in Spanish and English. Teaching experience at the university level.
Preferred Qualifications
A record of scholarly research publications.
