St. Lawrence University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Digital Media & Film with a specialization in media theory and history. We encourage applications from interdisciplinary humanities scholars in a range of fields including screen studies, sound studies, digital culture, emerging media, cultural analytics, and critical AI. The successful candidate will support St. Lawrence University’s new department and major in Digital Media & Film by developing a new foundational course titled “Introduction to Digital Media & Film Studies” and contributing more advanced topics courses in media theory, history, criticism, and analysis. The position is open to various theoretical, historical, textual, experimental, and practice-based methodologies, as well as global and comparative perspectives in critical media study. We are also interested in scholars with expertise in the study of race, gender, sexuality, or environmentalism in media. Ideal candidates will bring strengths in undergraduate teaching and a strong interest in joining our quickly growing program in Digital Media & Film, which integrates critical media-making, film and media studies, and a commitment to social justice within the context of a strong liberal arts education. The position begins August 2024, and the teaching load is three courses per semester.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in a relevant humanities field by the time of appointment; demonstrated interdisciplinary teaching and scholarship in media studies.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience and ability to teach with digital platforms and technologies relevant to media studies research and/or critical media-making.

Salary Range $70,500 - $76,000 annually. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
