The English Department at the State University of New York at New Paltz invites applications for a tenure-track position in Creative Writing with a specialization and teaching expertise in creative nonfiction. Candidates will be expected to develop and teach courses in creative nonfiction, which might include graphic memoir and diasporic or immigrant narratives. The appointment will be at the level of assistant professor with an anticipated start date of August 2024.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including general education and introductory creative writing courses as well as advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in creative writing.. There may be opportunities to teach general education and advanced writing and rhetoric courses as departmental needs permit. The standard teaching load for this position is 18 credits per year. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of creative projects leading to publication, effective teaching and mentoring and service within the college and disciplinary community. Qualifications: Required:
• An earned PhD, MFA, or equivalent (or supply solid indication of imminent completion)
Preferred:
• Strong evidence of active publication
• Demonstrable record of, or potential for, excellent teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels
