Assistant Professor of English
ABOUT THIS POSITION
Summary: The English Program at Colorado Mesa University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of English, a tenure-track position with expertise in American literature, specialty open. Candidates are expected to teach the department's current offerings in American literature and first-year composition. The ideal candidate will also be able to teach Young Adult literature courses.
The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester; some assigned courses may be taught on-line, hybrid, or via distance delivery modalities. The English program expects our professors to produce scholarship in the discipline, advise students, and serve the program, department, university, and the scholarly community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach first-year composition.
Teach a full array of American literature courses.
Advise students.
Serve the English program, department, university, and the scholarly community.
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in English or related field, with a primary specialty in American literature.
- Demonstrated ability to teach effectively.
- Successful experience teaching first-year university composition.
- Demonstrated potential for scholarship within the discipline.
- Effective communication and organizational skills.
- Desire and ability to work collaboratively with university faculty and staff.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience teaching university-level American literature courses, especially contemporary literature.
- Experience teaching young adult literature.
