Assistant Professor of Hispanic Literature

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Navarra seeks to fill a one year​ full-time, Assistant Professor position in Hispanic Literature, to begin September 2020. Depending on performance and mutual interests, the contract may be extended to a second year. ​Advanced candidates may eventually apply for tenure.

Area of Specialization: Spanish or Latin American Literatures

Area of Teaching Competence: general courses on World Literatures, Literary Criticism, Creative Writing, in both Spanish and English

The selected candidate will become part of the Spanish Studies Department, a dynamic unit of 25 professors responsible for the degree in Spanish, the degree in Literature and Creative Writing, the PhD program in Arts and Humanities and the Writing Center.

Candidates will have a PhD in Spanish/Latin American Literature by the date of the commencement of the position. Part of the candidate's teaching will be on Core Curriculum subjects. Any previous experience in the teaching of Core Curriculum courses and knowledge of its principles (www.unav.edu/en/web/core-curriculum/what-is-it/principles) will be very positively considered. In light of these principles, the ideal candidate will appreciate the relevance of literature in configuring individuals’ identities, demonstrate knowledge of Christianity and religion, and inspire in their students a reflective attitude to the present.

The candidate should be able to teach Spanish students as well as international students in both specialised Literature programs and general ones. Duties include teaching 2 or 3 courses per semester and assisting with program development. Candidates who can teach both in Spanish and English are especially encouraged. 

Demonstrated research excellence or promise of research in his/her AOS is expected. The School of Humanities will take into consideration the successful candidate's ability to lead research or academic projects in his or her unit, to be genuinely committed to students and show a collaborative spirit with colleagues and administrative staff. Persons with administrative experience are particularly encouraged to apply.
