Job Description:
The Department of Modern Languages at Farmingdale State College of the State University of New York invites applications for a tenure-track position in French at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning fall 2024. As a very diverse department committed to undergraduate teaching and to the principles of global awareness, we are seeking highly qualified native or near-native French speaking candidates with exceptional communication and writing skills who have demonstrated excellence in teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to teach French language, Francophone culture, literature and/or film related courses, and to collaborate with department members in developing a French minor and building the French language program. The course load is four (4) courses per semester and include French language courses and cultural, literature and film courses taught in English to non-majors. Preference will be given to candidates qualified to teach a second language (Spanish preferred).
All faculty members at Farmingdale State College have three workload components: teaching, research and scholarly activity, and service. The successful candidate will demonstrate an interest and a high level of competence and experience in teaching at the college level. Candidates are required to have a well-defined research agenda that complements their area of academic specialty resulting in peer-reviewed publications and presentations, both of which are necessary for promotion and tenure at Farmingdale State College. The service component of the workload includes student advisement as well as active participation and demonstrated leadership roles on departmental, school, college- and/or SUNY-wide committees. The faculty member is expected to teach language classes and upper-level culture, literature, and cinema related courses in English in multiple modalities.

Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ph.D. in French, Francophone Studies, or a related field.
- Two years of college teaching experience in French language at the undergraduate level.
- An agenda of scholarship with potential for peer-reviewed publications and presentations relevant to the area of expertise.
- Native or near-native fluency in French.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Teaching experience at the college level in French language, culture, literature, and/or film.
- Experience teaching a second language (Spanish strongly preferred) with good command of the language.
- Teaching experience in different modalities, such as face-to-face, hybrid, and online.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time, 10-month, tenure track faculty position.
- For the first 10 working days, beginning Thursday, October 26, 2023 and ending Wednesday, November 8, 2023, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.

- SALARY: $75,000 + $3,400 in downstate location pay = $78,400 Total Compensation. Salary may increase commensurate with experience.
