Assistant Professor of English: Literature and Writing

Centenary College of Louisiana invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in English, beginning August 2024. We seek candidates who would excel at teaching in a small college, seminar setting, who demonstrate excellence in scholarship, who clearly convey their passion for literature and writing, and who would appreciate and take advantage of the connections possible at a student-centered liberal arts institution.  

The ideal candidate would be a generalist who is prepared to teach introductory and upper-level courses in both literature and writing. We particularly welcome applications from candidates with expertise in Global Anglophone, Indigenous, Black, Latinx, postcolonial, and other historically underrepresented literatures and/or experience and interest in teaching creative nonfiction.   

Faculty at Centenary are expected to be student-centered, focusing heavily on engaged, innovative teaching in small class settings, advising individual and group student research projects, and mentoring students. Candidates are also required to have a record of scholarship and/or creative publication and a clear research agenda. The standard teaching load is six courses per year, with opportunities to teach in immersive May and August terms and to participate in college-wide programs such as Centenary in Paris. A completed Ph.D. by August 2024 is required.
