The Division of Modern Languages in the College of Liberals Arts and Sciences at Alfred University invites applications for a tenure-track professorship at the rank of Assistant Professor or Instructor to begin Fall 2024. EOE/ AA.
We seek a collaborative faculty member to join our Spanish program and make interdisciplinary connections. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. (or ABD) in either Latin American Literature, with a background in Afro-Latin American or Afro-Caribbean Literature and Cultures, or in Spanish Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, or Heritage Language Pedagogy with a demonstrated interest in mentoring language teachers, and have native or near native fluency in Spanish. Candidates must have the ability to teach courses in Latin American, Hemispheric American, Afro-Caribbean literature or Second Language Acquisition. In order to contribute to Alfred University's mission, the successful candidate will teach three courses each semester. Courses include lower-division Spanish courses, lower-division General Education Literature courses, and upper-level Spanish courses for the major/minor. Additional teaching opportunities include Alfred University's Allen Term, Applied & Experiential Learning (APEX), and Summer Programs.
Evidence of effective college or university teaching experience and the potential to build a strong record of scholarly productivity is required. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service, and have a commitment to teaching and working in a multicultural environment.
