Assistant Professor, Composition

The Department of English and Philosophy at Murray State University invites applications for the position of tenure-track assistant professor of English composition and writing studies. The assistant professor will teach 12 hours per semester according to qualifications and departmental needs; these may include composition, humanities, and undergraduate and graduate courses. Must maintain a record of publication in the field sufficient for tenure and advancement and engage in appropriate departmental and university service. Candidates should be qualified and interested in coordinating the first-year writing program, collaborating with department, college, and university administrators, and assisting university-wide efforts to increase retention and student engagement. Candidates should also reflect, through their research, teaching and service, a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Coordinating responsibilities will include a course release per semester. Terminal degree in English Studies or closely related field required. A minimum of 18 graduate hours in English, composition, and/or writing studies is also required. ABDs with a documented plan of completion by appointment date will be considered. Evidence of strong teaching, evidence of strong potential for research and publication, and demonstrated success in teaching first-year composition to students with varying levels of academic preparation is required. Preferred Qualifications: Previous teaching or research in rhetoric and/or professional writing is preferred.
