Visiting Lecturer in Italian Studies

The Department of Modern Languages at Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for the position of Visiting Lecturer in Italian Studies, beginning in August 2024, for a two-year appointment, potentially renewable, pending satisfactory review after the first year. Applicants must have native or near-native fluency in Italian and English. Ph.D. in Italian language, literature, cultural studies, applied linguistics, or a relevant field is required, ABD considered. Of particular interest are candidates whose research focuses on one or more of the following areas: second language acquisition and literacy, film and cultural studies, translation theory and practice, and/or technology enhanced learning. Candidates should demonstrate evidence of expertise in the latest approaches to classroom instruction, material development, and technology-enhanced language learning. Teaching load is 3+3.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will teach elementary Italian language courses as well as Italian culture and general education courses according to area of expertise. The successful candidate will also oversee curriculum design and materials development and develop and engage in student outreach activities.

The successful candidate will benefit from a strong and growing support of interdisciplinary humanities research and teaching at Carnegie Mellon, including such initiatives as the Center for the Arts in Society, Humanities@CMU, and Askwith Kenner Global Languages and Cultures Room.

Qualifications

PhD in Italian language, literature, cultural studies, applied linguistics, or a relevant field. ABD considered.
