The School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Rochester is seeking an intellectual leader in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies to be appointed as the next Director of the Susan B. Anthony Institute. We seek a colleague with expertise in one or more of these fields who will use the prominence of this Directorship to advance the mission of deepening and diversifying gender, sexuality, and women’s studies at the University, potentially cross-pollinating between the School of Arts and Sciences and other units, as well as drawing on Rochester’s substantial history of social justice advances. Key partner units and programs within the School of Arts and Sciences include the Humanities Center, the Graduate Program in Visual and Cultural Studies, and the newly formed Department of Black Studies. This is a unique opportunity to build an institutional home for cutting edge research in these fields at the University of Rochester.
We are seeking a vibrant interdisciplinary scholar and visionary leader who holds a Ph.D. in a field within the humanities or social sciences and is qualified for rank at the level of Associate or Full Professor, to hold tenure in one of the following departments: Anthropology, Art and Art History, Black Studies, Economics, English, History, Modern Languages and Cultures, Philosophy, and Religion and Classics. Candidates should demonstrate a career of effective teaching and mentoring; provide evidence of committed professional, campus, and community leadership; and express an innovative vision for the future of the field. The School of Arts and Sciences is especially interested in strengthening indigenous studies, trans studies, intersectionality, decolonial studies, disability studies, and public health.
