Assistant Professor in French and Francophone Studies

The Department of Languages and Intercultural Studies (LIS) at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor specializing in French and Francophone Studies to begin August 16, 2024. The teaching load for this position is a 3/3.

We seek a teacher-scholar who can demonstrate successful experience teaching undergraduate French language courses at all levels and who is also able to teach classes about French and Francophone culture in English. The successful candidate will be expected to take on a leadership role in the French program, incorporate high-impact practices and inclusive pedagogy, and oversee curricular and extracurricular activities.


We are especially interested in candidates whose teaching and research demonstrates interdisciplinary engagement with the broader Francosphere. Area of specialization is open, though we are particularly interested in candidates with demonstrable interest in and ability to teach second language acquisition and/or languages for the professions.  Strong preference will be given to candidates who can also support language and culture courses in Arabic and who can oversee the Arabic language program.

Required qualifications:

· a Ph.D. in French and/or Francophone Studies or a related field in hand by the start of the appointment

· a strong record of teaching language and culture courses to students from a broad range of majors

· evidence of an active research agenda

· evidence of skills related to effectively teaching with technology

Preferred qualifications:

· ability to teach Arabic

· evidence of exceptional teaching

· evidence of interest in ongoing professional development
