The Department of Romance Languages & Literatures and the Humanities Collegiate Division at the University of Chicago are accepting applications for up to two full-time, two-year renewable, benefits-eligible Assistant Instructional Professor positions in Spanish. Responsibilities will include teaching 7 courses in Spanish language per year across three quarters according to the needs of the program in addition to some administrative and/or coordinating duties.
A M.A. or equivalent in Hispanic linguistics, applied linguistics, translation, second-language teaching or acquisition, literature, or a related field is required by the start date of the position(s). Particular consideration will be given to candidates whose research and/or work experience includes one or more of the following fields:
· - Spanish for Heritage Speakers
· - South American, Central American, Mexican, and/or Caribbean Cultures
· - Latinx, Afro-Latinx, and/or Indigenous Cultures
A minimum of one year of experience teaching Spanish at the college or post-secondary level and experience in the development of instructional materials is required. ACTFL Superior-level proficiency (or equivalent) in Spanish and Advanced-level (or equivalent) proficiency in English are required. Candidates must be able to demonstrate their language proficiency via certification or in the interview process.

Applicants must upload a current curriculum vitae, a cover letter in both Spanish and English that addresses professional and teaching experience and discusses approaches to pedagogy; a teaching portfolio which includes three to four examples of teaching materials (e.g. lesson plans, assessments, etc.); any syllabi developed by the applicant (if available); and course evaluations (if available); and a document containing the names and contact information for three references from whom letters of recommendation may be solicited. Short-listed candidates may be asked to provide a 20- to 30-minute teaching video.
