Assistant Professor of English (24-06)

Francis Marion University and the Department of English, Modern Languages, and Philosophy invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English with expertise in pre-twentieth-century American literature.  We especially welcome candidates with an interest in the Colonial/Early Republic period, African American literature, and/or Native American studies. Teaching responsibilities include courses related to American literature prior to 1900, general literature, and first-year composition.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in hand by the start of the appointment (though ABDs nearing completion of their degree will be considered), teaching experience, and an active research agenda in the candidate’s field of expertise. The successful candidate will assist in the recruitment of English majors, participate in the ongoing development of the English program, and engage in other scholarly and university service.

Francis Marion University provides generous travel support for faculty presenting research at scholarly and professional conferences. Summer research stipends are available on a competitive basis.
