Position Details:

The Department of English at Washington State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor, Career Track (non-tenure track) in the Teaching Subtrack faculty position in Pullman, WA with a specialty in Professional Writing. This position is a fixed-term, full-time, nine-month, three-year appointment with possibility of renewal. We seek applicants who have expertise in teaching professional writing, especially to business majors.  It is anticipated that the successful candidate will begin the appointment on August 16, 2024.

Job duties:  The successful candidate will teach a 4-4 load (80%) and have service responsibilities in the professional writing program (20%).

Required Qualifications:

• Completed Terminal Degree at time of hire in Technical Communication, Rhetoric and Composition, English or related field.

• Experience teaching upper division business writing.

• Experience teaching online asynchronous writing classes.

• Ability to work with linguistically diverse writers.

• Successful candidate must either have demonstrated a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse university community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with any of the following:

• International/Intercultural business writing, professional or technical writing at the college level

• Expertise in digital production (web authoring, user experience, etc.)

The successful candidate will join the Department of English, which has roughly 200 undergraduate majors in English combined with about 40 M.A. and Ph.D. students to help make English the third-largest teaching unit in the College of Arts and Sciences. More than 8000 undergraduates take classes in English each year, with courses ranging from first-year writing to advanced seminars. Annual Salary: $48,000 - $52,000 per nine-month academic year | In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. This is a temporary fixed term career track position.
 

Temporary End Date: This is a temporary position expected to end on May 15, 2027. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
