Associate Professor or Professor may have the opportunity to non-competitively receive a permanent appointment in the excepted service. This tenure track, Assistant or Associate Professor position will have a 4/4 teaching load for an Assistant Professor and a 3/3 teaching load for an Associate Professor with additional service obligations both in the Department and more broadly at West Point. These service obligations include opportunities to direct the first-year composition course, to direct the core course in literature, to direct and administer the West Point Writing Program and/or West Point’s Mounger Writing Center, to administer the Stokes Writing Fellows Program, and various institutional-level service obligations. Because of the significant service requirements, Associate Professor applicants are preferred, but not required. Candidates will be evaluated according to the following factors: (i) Academic Accomplishment (Doctorate required) in English, Comparative Literatures, or Rhetoric and Composition; (ii) Demonstrated ability to direct and administer a university-wide writing program and a university writing center; (iii) ability to teach upper-level electives in literature, to include survey courses in American and British Literature and genre courses such as Poetry and Drama; (iv) Scholarly accomplishment demonstrated through publication and research. (v) Ability to support the personal growth and professional development of students in and out of the classroom. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
