ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY: The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is the intellectual heart of the University of South Florida. The Department of English at the University of South Florida educates undergraduate and graduate students in literature, rhetoric and composition, and creative writing. Faculty and graduate students produce high impact scholarship and creative work that creates new knowledge, translates our research for a broader public, and facilitates engaged practice. Our work is founded in evidentiary reasoning, interpretation, and creativity. Operating across the three USF campuses, we provide cutting-edge training in writing for first-year students and for advanced students in diverse disciplines. On the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus, English faculty deliver the B.A. degrees in English and in Professional and Technical Communication as well as the required sequence of First-Year Composition.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Department of English invites applications for one full-time, nontenure earning Assistant Professor of Instruction, teaching primarily first-year composition at our Sarasota-Manatee campus. This is a permanent position with a competitive benefits package, a starting salary of $55,000, and a full-time teaching load of 4/4 (possibility for a 4/3 with course release for a non-teaching assignment). Start date: August 7, 2024.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM: Ph.D in English (with a focus in Rhetoric and Composition or related field) or Doctorate in Education. Experience teaching composition at the college level. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor of Instruction.
PREFERRED: Two or more years’ experience teaching composition at the college level. Experience teaching a range of undergraduate writing courses at various levels. Experience teaching in multiple modalities and innovative pedagogies. Experience leading or supporting initiatives in writing programs, general education efforts, or higher education partnerships.
