Position Description
The Language and Literature Program in the Harry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology at The University of Texas at Dallas invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Literature with a specialization in literature of the Global South. Candidates with expertise in South Asian and/or Arabic literatures, in the practice and theory of translation, and in postcolonial theory are especially encouraged to apply. Teaching responsibilities include graduate and undergraduate courses as part of our BA, MA, and PhD programs in Literature, including seminars and workshops related to the practice and theory of literary translation.
The appointment commences for the fall 2024 semester.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience: An earned PhD in literary studies or a related academic discipline (awarded by 8/1/2024) as well as evidence of high potential for excellence in research and teaching. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking candidates able to produce research and scholarly or creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline, and able to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.
Languages & Literature Program
The Language & Literature Program at UT Dallas brings together—in a single academic unit—critics, theorists, creative writers, and literary translators who share a commitment to thinking about the aesthetic and political ambitions of literature in a transnational and interdisciplinary context. We offer BA, MA, and PhD degrees in Literature, in addition to graduate certificates in Creative Writing and Literary Translation.
The Harry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology is a community of scholars, artists, and creative practitioners defined by their creativity, critical thinking, and cross-cultural understanding. Within the context of a Carnegie R1 doctoral research institution, the Bass School fosters the fluid movement between traditional disciplines and cutting-edge experimental investigation of emerging technologies.
