The English Department at Baruch College, a senior college of the City University of New York located in the vibrant Flatiron neighborhood of mid-town Manhattan, invites applications for a tenure track position in Creative Writing—Poetry at the assistant professor rank. Job applicants must have a PhD and/or MFA in creative writing or a related subject by fall 2024 and will ideally have a strong publication record, including published poetry. We are searching for a poet who is qualified to teach both writing and reading poetry, with a demonstrated knowledge of poetic forms and the history of poetry and an understanding of different literary traditions and the diversity of poetry writing in English. Experience writing and teaching in other genres, including literary criticism and interpretation, is welcome. Our goal is to hire someone who can support the department’s commitment to fostering creative expression and a passion for literature among the undergraduate student body both in and outside the classroom. Teaching opportunities will include courses in literature and creative writing as well as sections of Great Works of Literature, our multicultural literature requirement, and First-Year Writing. There will also be opportunities to create new courses in creative writing and to collaborate with other departments on interdisciplinary initiatives.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary Range: $79,188-$93,134; commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications:

MFA and/or PhD in creative writing or a related field
