Visiting Assistant Professor in Film/Cinema Studies

The Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University (NYU) invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor focusing on Film/Cinema Studies. We seek a scholar with a Ph.D. (or expected degree in 2024) in Film Studies, Media Studies and Communications, or a related discipline, who is committed to studying and teaching cinema through the lenses of Critical Race Studies, Disability Studies, and/or Gender, Queer, and Trans Studies. Successful candidates for this two-year position will present strong evidence of excellence in interdisciplinary teaching and research and will have the Ph.D. in hand by the start date of September 1, 2024.

The teaching load for this position is four courses per year (two in the fall and two in the spring). Additionally, visiting faculty carry an advising load up to 5 students. Successful applicants will have evidence of an ongoing research program, teaching effectiveness, and commitment to increasing diversity and fostering inclusion in academia.

Qualifications: Candidates should have a comparative and interdisciplinary research program, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and a commitment to increasing diversity and fostering inclusion in academia.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $75,000 to $95,000. This pay range represents base pay only (for 9 months OR for 12 months) and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
