R0049804 Department Chairperson

The Department of Rhetoric and Writing at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock invites applications for a Professor and Department Chair position to begin July 1, 2024. We seek a chair with demonstrated effective leadership and/or administrative experience and an active research agenda and pedagogical interests in one or more of the following: Rhetoric and composition, non-fiction, professional and technical writing, editing, or related areas. We seek candidates who will lead the department in support of the university and college missions and enact the mission of the department to develop written and rhetorical literacy among its majors, UALR students, and the larger communities of which it is a part.

The Department of Rhetoric and Writing, a stand-alone writing department, houses the Composition program, the University Writing Center, and the Little Rock Writing Project. The department offers a BA, and an MA in Professional and Technical Writing. These degrees include courses in rhetoric, editing, creative nonfiction, and technical writing. The department has approximately 40 active majors and 40 active graduate students. The department also offers graduate certificates in business/professional writing and online writing instruction. Required Qualifications: Doctoral degree in Rhetoric and Composition, Technical Writing, Writing Studies, English or closely related field.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:  Effective academic leadership and/or higher education administrative experience; an established record of teaching and scholarship equivalent to Associate Professor or Professor rank at UA Little Rock with a demonstrated commitment to working across disciplines.
