Lecturing Fellow

Duke University Thompson Writing Program.  Duke's Thompson Writing Program is a nationally recognized leader in preparing scholars across fields to successfully integrate writing pedagogy into their discipline-specific teaching. We anticipate offering Lecturing Fellow positions for Ph.D.'s in a broad range of STEM and humanities fields. Candidates should be interested in developing their teaching abilities and gaining substantial undergraduate teaching experience. Successful candidates will join a multidisciplinary faculty charged with teaching an innovative first-year course in Academic Writing. This year we are especially interested in hiring candidates with a Ph.D. in any STEM and quantitative social science fields, and also the following fields: African and African American Studies, Art History, Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, Economics, Global Health, Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Public Policy, Religion, Rhetoric/Composition, and Theater Studies. Following an intensive preparation and mentoring seminar, Fellows will draw on their disciplinary training and interests to design seminar-style courses introducing students to academic writing. Teaching load is four sections of Academic Writing per year (two per semester), with each section limited to 12 students. Fellows will also have access to professional development opportunities, and a mentor in their own or a closely related discipline. This appointment is for three years, non-renewable, at a level of Lecturing Fellow (non-regular-rank), starting either January 1, 2020 or July 1, 2020. Salary is competitive with a strong benefits package, and with opportunities for professional development. PhD required.
