Visiting Faculty of French and Francophone Studies

The Department of Classics and Modern Languages at Xavier University invites applications for a Visiting Faculty of French and Francophone Studies for AY 2024/2025. The position, renewable pending need for up to three years, carries a 4/4 load. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

All areas of specialization are welcome. We especially welcome scholars with expertise that complements existing program strengths in environmental humanities, gender, diversity, and global French.

Enthusiasm for teaching language and culture at all levels of the curriculum, including language acquisition courses and language for professional purposes, is essential. We seek candidates invested in extending student learning through co-curricular programming and able to collaborate effectively with other departmental and interdisciplinary programs as we grow our burgeoning program. The successful candidate will combine the basic qualifications of a generalist with their areas of research specialization. Ph.D. in French, French Second Language Acquisition, French Linguistics, Francophone Studies, Comparative Literature, or a closely related field; ABD candidates will be considered, but all requirements for the Ph.D. must be completed before the start of employment. All candidates must have native or near-native fluency in both French and English and should demonstrate promise for outstanding teaching and mentoring in the areas of language, literature, and culture.
