Illinois Wesleyan University invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor in the English Department. This one-year position will begin in Fall 2024. Salary is competitive and provides excellent benefits.

The English Department offers a major with concentrations in Literature and Writing. We offer minors in English, Creative Writing, and Journalism and Communication. A large percentage of our English majors also major in Education Studies. Many of our students study abroad, receive academic credit for internships, pursue independent studies, and conduct honors research. Qualifications:
Candidates must have a PhD or be nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) in English, Comparative Literature, or a related field by August 1, 2024. We seek candidates who can teach courses that focus on diaspora studies, disability studies, gender studies, global/postcolonial Englishes, Latinx literature, and/or literary theory. Preference will be given to candidates who can also teach British literature(s) of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility will be to teach undergraduate English courses. The typical teaching load for the position is four classes per semester, including two sections of a first-year writing course.
