Assistant Professor - English (20th and 21st-Century British Literature)

The department of English at Creighton University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor specializing in 20th and 21st-Century British Literature with an emphasis on race and/or social justice. We seek individuals committed to being outstanding teacher-scholars within a primarily undergraduate-serving college. The successful applicant will teach a 3-3 course load that includes introductory courses in composition and core-level literature courses, as well as upper division elective courses in their area of expertise. We are especially interested in candidates also working in one of the following areas: British novel, gender studies, history of economics, ecocriticism, or Irish literature.

The position is part of a cluster hire across the College of Arts and Sciences, forming a multidisciplinary initiative focused on the topic of Race and Social Justice as a line of inquiry in teaching and/or research. The position begins August 2024.

  • Ph.D. is required to be in hand by the beginning of the contract
  • Ability to foster student learning, development, and decision making in support of their goals, success, wellness, and needs 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop rapport quickly and effectively with a diversity of populations 
  • Empathy and compassion for the experiences of others
