The School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College invites applications for a tenured Associate or Full Professor in Digital Humanities, beginning August 2020. Responsibilities include teaching, conducting research, and serving as Chair of the Digital Media, Arts, and Technology (DIGIT) major. Rank of hire depends on current rank and scholarly record.

DIGIT is a fast growing, inter-disciplinary major in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. The major is anchored in Digital Humanities, but encompasses depth in the arts, data visualization, and user experience design.

The ideal candidate will possess a record of excellent college teaching, scholarly publications commensurate with a tenured position, and evidence of leadership at the college level. A doctorate in a scholarly area of the humanities is required.

Expertise in digital humanities, digital text analysis, text encoding, natural language processing with Python, website development, and data mining are required. An established record of engaging with digital scholarship/new publishing technologies is necessary.

Penn State Erie, the Behrend College is an undergraduate and graduate college of The Pennsylvania State University. We are situated on a beautiful, wooded, 854-acre hillside campus with four academic schools (Business; Engineering; Humanities and Social Sciences; and, Science) and an on-campus childcare center. With 5,000 students, we retain the ambience and the focus on teaching of a small college while having access to the research resources of a Big 10, R1 University. The School of Humanities and Social Sciences has approximately 80 full-time faculty members, offers ten bachelor's degrees (Arts Administration; Communication; Creative Writing; Digital Media, Arts, and Technology; Elementary and Early Childhood Education; English; General Arts and Sciences; History; Political Science; and Psychology) and one master's degree (Applied Clinical Psychology.) The school is also home to the languages and the arts. Technology and inter-library loan resources are excellent; internal funds are available for scholarly activity. The School supports a growing, all-campus interest in research that addresses issues of women's health or energy and sustainability.

Erie, Pennsylvania, a metropolitan area on Lake Erie, with more than a quarter of a million people, is a major tourism, medical, industrial, and service area two hours from Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo. We offer four seasons with cultural, sports, and recreational resources available year-round. Our summers are known for festivals, miles of beaches, and water sports, while our winters provide ample opportunity for snow sports. Erie's cost of living is modest, housing is affordable, and there are four other colleges in the region.
