Assistant Professor of Film Studies/English

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Teach Film Studies and other English courses. The incumbent would be expected to teach a 4/4 load of courses that would include Film Studies, first-year composition, and other courses as needed.
  • Instruct courses in varied locations, at varied times, and via various media commensurate with department and university needs.
  • Engage in scholarly research or creative achievement to enhance knowledge of field.
  • Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study in the field to enhance teaching abilities.
  • Contribute to student growth and development including student advising.
  • Provide service to the university and community including the program, the department, the college, the university, and the greater community.
  • Support Winona State University's mission to enhance the intellectual, social, cultural, and economic vitality of the people and communities we serve.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  • PhD in Film Studies or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching Film Studies and first-year composition to undergraduates.
  • Industry experience with film production.

Preferred:

  • Skills/ability to integrate technology to enhance learning and teaching.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality teaching.
  • [Demonstrated accomplishment and/or professional experience in Film Studies.
    • Such experience should include film production, in addition to global cinemas, popular genres, film theory and criticism, and film festival curation & exhibition.
  • Demonstrated, successful higher education teaching experience in Film Studies as well as first-year composition.
  • Ability to regularly teach courses in person/on campus and online.
