The Department of Romance Studies at Tufts University invites applications for a Italian Language Coordinator/Full-time Lecturer position to begin September 1, 2024.
Full time lecturer to teach all level of Italian language courses (three courses per semester). While fulfilling the interim coordinator role, responsibilities include teaching four Italian language courses annually; coordinating all levels of Italian; overseeing the entire Italian language curriculum; hiring, supervising and evaluating Italian lecturers; hiring, training and supervising Teaching Assistants; coordinating and administering placement exams; evaluating students level ad-hoc; advising students; collaborating with other university offices; maintaining liaison with Global Education programs; promoting the program by organizing co-curricular and outreach events.
Qualification:
- Masters’ degree required in Italian studies, second language acquisition, linguistics, or a related field. PhD preferred.
- Native or near-native fluency in Italian and English.
- Detail-oriented, strong organizational skills.
- Team-management, interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Experience in designing and teaching college-level Italian language and culture courses in the U.S.
- Command of instructional technology applied to language learning.
- Evidence of creative pedagogical practice reflecting knowledge of current methodologies.
- Evidence of a commitment to designing curricula that address issues of equity and justice with a focus on marginalized communities.
- Knowledge of current Italian cultural and political events.
