Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow in Spanish

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Modern Languages department invites new or recent Spanish doctoral recipients to serve as a postdoctoral teaching fellow for a term of two years, renewable for one additional year. The unique emphasis for this position is to assist and collaborate in efforts to integrate level-appropriate examples of literature and art from the Hispanic traditions into the Spanish curriculum of the university’s core language requirement. Teaching responsibilities will include Spanish courses at all levels.

The successful candidate will teach three courses each semester including occasional upper-level Spanish courses such as Advanced Grammar and Composition and Advanced Grammar and Communication. The successful candidate is invited to propose courses in their specialization that may be taught as electives counted for a Spanish major or concentration.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Teach three courses each semester.
• Collaborate and assist efforts to integrate literature and art into courses First-year Spanish I, First-year Spanish II, and Second-year Spanish I.
• Offer departmental workshops for the four language programs on integrating area of specialization into language classrooms.  

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT

Ph.D. in Spanish or Linguistics completed by the position start date of August 21, 2024.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Teaching experience at the collegiate level 
• Experience working with heritage language speakers.
