Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream - CLTA - Latin American Literature and Culture

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese, in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a one-year full-time teaching stream contractually limited term appointment (CLTA) in Latin American Literature and Culture. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream with an anticipated start date of July 1 2024.

Candidates must have earned a PhD degree in Spanish or a related area by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching. Candidates must have experience teaching Modern and/or Contemporary Latin American Literatures and Cultures, and teaching experience in a University Spanish Language Program. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths. Candidates must have teaching experience in a degree-granting program, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online material/lectures. Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities.

Evidence of excellence in teaching and a commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry can be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, awards and accolades, presentations at significant conferences, the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application (with required materials outlined below) as well as strong letters of reference.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The University of Toronto’s Department of Spanish & Portuguese is a center for innovation and leading research in Hispanic and Lusophone studies.  The Department houses three undergraduate programs (Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies), and an MA and PhD program in Spanish. In addition to language instruction in Spanish and Portuguese, our programs explore the literature and cultures of the Hispanic and Lusophone worlds, and the linguistic analysis of the Spanish and Portuguese languages.
