The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for one or more full-time Visiting Lecturer positions to teach three 3-credit courses per term (Fall and Spring). We are seeking a dynamic, innovative educator who excels at teaching Spanish language as well as Hispanic Literatures and Cultural Studies. The position will begin on September 1, 2024 with classes beginning on August 26, 2024.
Applicants must demonstrate the capacity to teach courses in all levels of Spanish, especially language classes. Course responsibilities include elementary, intermediate, and advanced-level courses in the language sequence. Depending on student enrollment and staffing needs, the successful candidate may also be asked to teach core courses such as Overview of Latin American Literature, Hispanic Civilizations, Spanish for the professions, and upper-level undergraduate literature and culture courses. A PhD in Spanish with a focus in Latin American literatures and cultures in hand at the time of appointment, and native or near-native proficiency in Spanish are required. Candidates must also have prior college-level teaching experience and be familiar with current foreign language pedagogical approaches.
