Visiting Assistant Professor English

The Department of English in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of South Dakota invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor (VAP) beginning in Aug 2024. This position is a nine month, full-time, benefits-eligible, term position that may be renewed based on performance and /or needs of the department.


The Department of English seeks candidates for a 1-year appointment as a VAP in English/Creative Writing. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated passion for teaching and inspiring students and hold a PhD or other terminal degree in English or a related field with an emphasis in creative writing and expertise in poetry. The successful candidate for this position will teach undergraduate and graduate level creative writing courses in poetry, and introductory courses in creative writing and/or literature. The workload allocation in this position includes teaching and service, primarily teaching (12 credit hours per semester). Courses may be face-to-face or online modalities.
