Position Introduction
The Department of English at Vassar College invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor, specializing in Asian American Literature. This position will start in August 2025.

Position Description
We are especially interested in applicants whose research and teaching interests include: critical ethnic studies, postcolonial literature, twentieth- and twenty-first century literature, graphic novels and new media, or literary nonfiction. In addition, we welcome applicants who link the study of Asian American Literature to interdisciplinary research areas, such as Women, Feminist, and Queer Studies; environmental humanities; diasporic, transnational, and transpacific studies; digital humanities; media studies. In partnership with the multidisciplinary programs, we are interested in other emerging subfields that examine the relationship between culture, identity, and embodiment, such as queer, trans, and disability studies. A candidate with a specialization in digital humanities would also be welcome.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in English or a closely related field in hand by the commencement of the appointment, experience in and a commitment to undergraduate teaching, and evidence of scholarly potential.
Teaching in the first year is four courses. In ensuing years, it will be five courses or four courses plus a group tutorial. The successful candidate will bring a fresh perspective and energy to their research, pedagogy, and advising.
Salary Wage Range
Pay Transparency Disclosure: The annual starting salary range for this position is $92,000 to $102,000 (USD). This range includes new faculty appointments beginning the first year of a standard tenure clock as well as Assistant Professors with previous tenure-line experience who will be on an accelerated tenure clock. When extending an offer of employment, Vassar College considers factors such as (but not limited to) candidate’s education/training, work experience, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations. This salary range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of posting. The starting salary for an Assistant Professor in this position with a PhD beginning the first year of a standard tenure clock in Fall 2025 is $96,000.
