Non-Tenure: Visiting Assistant Professor (Rhetoric)

The Department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, (non-tenured) Visiting Assistant Professor in English (Rhetoric) to teach at the Texas A&M University Higher Education Center in McAllen, Texas for the 2024-2025 academic year, with possibility of renewal. The start date for this position is August 1, 2024;  classes will begin on August 19, 2024.  

This is a non-tenured appointment with a 3/3 teaching load consisting of undergraduate courses in professional/technical communication and composition.  We seek a specialist in composition studies, technical communication, and/or writing pedagogy.  The ideal candidate’s teaching and research interests will be relevant to the rhetorical situation and pedagogical needs of STEM students and/or students at Hispanic-serving institutions, and will have experience in both face-to-face and online instruction. 

English faculty at the Higher Education Center in McAllen provides writing instruction for students pursuing undergraduate degrees in agriculture, science, engineering, education, and public health.  The successful candidate would be expected to work collaboratively with writing studies coordinators and faculty in the English department at the College Station campus to ensure alignment with course objectives, to develop or refine course syllabi and materials in relation to the specific needs and interests of McAllen students, with the possibility of engaging in collaborative research and pedagogical projects.

Qualifications

The position requires a PhD in English, Writing Studies, Rhetoric or a related field with a specialization in rhetoric, writing, or technical/professional communication and relevant teaching experience.
